To all who would judge me, when your child is slaughtered in
the cold-blooded, calculated, unmerciful way my daughter was, let's see
what you say. I forgave mason a year after the crime, because I am a
Christian, but my pain was too great to deal with it earlier, not that
you would understand. The 3 detectives who worked her case testified
there was no "outside crime people", nor was he "too high". By his own
Grand Jury and Trial court documented confession and evidence, he wanted
$800 for a down payment on a barber shop in Pulaski. He planned to rob,
kill witnesses and take cameras, not to be ID'd. Angie was his 2nd
victim, she died. When arrested, the gun was loaded on the seat beside
him. By his confession, he was going to kill again. These are court
documented facts. He confessed that he went into the store, spoke with
my daughter, saw the layout, then drove around and planned her murder.
He then parked for 30 minutes on Sparkman, watching her to be sure she
was alone before he went in and carried out his plan. He confesses she
begged him for her life and to let her get him the money. She was 5'1"
130#, crippled from a car accident. He was 6'4" 248# with a gun known to
misfire. She begged for mercy, he gave her none. After he brutalized
her in EVERY way, his pubic hair found in hers, beaten, and her skull
fractured, he shot her in her left dimple. The ME testified "she was in
excruciating pain, with all facial bones shattered, choking on her
blood, I've never seen such a cruel crime". Mason confessed she was
"still breathing and there was no way I was leaving that chick alive" so
he shot her in her right dimple, then stood over her til she was not
breathing, and went for the cash. How many times do you think she heard
that gun misfire before each shot? He asked forgiveness of his preacher,
who testified "I have forgive him and he should not be tried". Sorry,
that's not what the law or the Bible says. The jury heard the evidence
and saw all the pictures over a week-long trial, came back with a death
penalty vote 10-2. I was not allowed to relate facts of the case during
litigation. That is over and I can now speak out. I am neither bitter
nor unforgiving, I simply want justice for my child who was working to
make an honest living. If you have a problem with this, then maybe you
either don't have children or just don't love yours enough to go to bat
for them, but I DO!!! Former judge little DID tell me that her death
"was not that bad" to my face, though he could not even remember the
facts of the case when we spoke, and did not even have the transcript of
the case to look at, when he agreed to give that letter for mason's
lawyer. He is a coward, as someone else stated in the paper and he was
cruel to me. I have been harassed repeatedly with vandalism to my home
and threats to break in on me, to intimidate me to ask to drop the death
penalty. In the words of the Al Appeals Ct, and the Al Supreme Ct,
"under the law of Al, that is the only penalty called for, in such a
cruel, unnecessary slaughter designed to create extreme pain and fear in
the victim", and I will not back down. I promised that to Angie when I
saw what was left of her in the morgue. I was there at every hearing, I
heard every court decision, YOU did not. Unlike some of you, I will not
hide my name, I have nothing to be ashamed of and I am clear with God.
It is HE who has comforted and gotten our family through thus far. His
will be done.
